This week for Throwback Thursday, we are going back to 1980 when the classic horror 'The Shining' was released. Directed by Stanley Kubrick and based on the book by Stephen King, this is one of my personal favourite horror films.
The film's main leads are Jack Nicholson, Shelley Duvall, Danny Lloyd and Scatman Crothers, who all do a fantastic job in their roles.
Our main character Jack Torrance accepts a live-in position as an off-season caretaker at The Overlook Hotel in Colorado. He and his family move there for the winter, and after his son Danny learns he has telepathic abilities, strange things start happening. Jack is a recovering alcoholic and a writer, and we watch as he descends into madness in this isolated hotel.
There are so many fantastic and iconic scenes in this film. A blood-filled elevator, a chase scene through the maze and a really gross old naked lady scene being just some that you will surely know about, even if you haven't seen the film.
Very well made, well acted, a great story and super scary even to this day! Whether it's the creepy ghosts of the hotel that get to you, or the violent downfall of Jack and watching his poor family try to escape, this is a must watch movie for everyone!
