This week back in 1986, we were taken on a wild ride when 'The Hitcher' was released. This was actually a first time watch for me. I loved seeing a very young, and handsome, C.Thomas Howell. It also starred Rutger Hauer, Jennifer Jason Leigh and Jeffrey DeMunn.
For me, the pacing did seem a bit off. There were several scenes that felt drawn out, so the film felt longer than it actually was. There were also some very weird scenes where they used a kind of slow/stop motion effect which looked really weird. I'm not sure what they were going for there?
It was a good film and had some stunning scenic shots of California where it was filmed. The actors were all great, and the action moments were brilliant, and it did amp up more towards the end. Rutger Hauer was amazing playing the creepy and insane hitchhiker!
Though the thought of this ever happening is pretty scary, I'd consider it more thriller than a horror. The lesson here: don't pick up hitchhikers!
I know this is very much loved, but it didn't quite live up to the hype for me. It had good bits and bad bits, but it was a decent watch, if like me you've never seen it before.
