Throwback Thursday: Nightbreed (1990)

There was a large fire burning in front of a man standing on the other side of a gate, and in the flames, there are several different humanoid creatures

This week back in 1990, Clive Barker bought us another crazy, fantasy horror movie, Nightbreed. First of all, this has very much 80s horror vibes from the start, and I never would have dreamed it an early 90s movie.

It stars Craig Sheffer and Anne Bobby as our main love interests Aaron and Lori. We also get David Cronenberg (yes, that Cronenberg) playing the creepy and evil doctor. The only person I actually recognised myself was English actor Hugh Quarshie from Holby City!

I went into this blind, knowing nothing other than it was by Clive Barker of Hellraiser fame, so I had an idea of what to expect. There were amazingly cool costumes and make up at every turn. I also really liked the music. The scene where Lori is exploring the 'Below' looking for Aaron is fantastic. You see so many different kinds of weird and wonderful characters.

As much as I can absolutely appreciate the imagination and creativity behind this movie, it just wasn't really my kind of thing personally. I can totally understand why it would have it's fan base though, and if you enjoy the likes of Hellraiser and The Void, then you will probably enjoy this also.
