This week back in 1954, Universal Pictures bought us one of their later monster movies, Creature from the Black Lagoon. I have always been fascinated by the 'Creature' as a character, but I have never actually gotten around to watching the film, so this was a first time watch for me.
I do really love these old black and white classics, and as soon as it started, I knew it was going to be great. Our main, and only, female character is just beautiful and played by Julie Adams. The rest of the cast were great too.
The Florida filming location gave the perfect Amazon river vibes, and all of the underwater shots looked fantastic too. The scene where Kay is swimming in the water, and we see the Creature swimming parallel to her under the water just creeps me out. I don't like water, especially if it's deep or not crystal clear for exactly this reason ... what might be down there!
Ricou Browning did an amazing job playing the Creature in all of the underwater scenes. The underwater fight scene was brilliant; I was holding my breath whilst watching! The music was perfect for all of those tense moments throughout.
I'm still working my way through the Universal classics, but so far this is on top for me and is an absolute must watch!
