Happy September Horror Fans! This week for my Tubi Tuesday review I wanna tell you about a phenomenal psychological horror film; The Night Eats The World. This movie came out in 2018 and stars Anders Danielsen Lie as Sam. Sam sadly ended up in a zombie-infested France and had to not only fight for his life but also try to keep the loneliness from killing him.
Our film starts with Sam showing up at his ex-girlfriend's new apartment. He is there to get some of the things that she took when they broke up. He ends up getting stuck at this party while she is busy talking with people and spending time with her new boyfriend. Finally, Sam is able to find his belongings and ends up falling asleep looking through his things.
Once Sam wakes up the next morning he finds the apartment covered in blood and his ex has turned into this zombie-like creature. The apartment is riddled with dead bodies and blood. We see Sam take his time cleaning the apartment and eventually clearing the building from these zombies.
The rest of the movie is spent seeing how Sam spends his days during the infection. He seems okay in the early days, he finds purpose in clearing out the building and even ends up with a trapped zombie that he can talk with when he feels lonely. Then the weather grows cold and Sam gets depressed. While this movie doesn't have much jump-scare horror, it leaves the audience with a sense of dread as we see Sam slowly lose his resolve and succumb to the effects of isolation.
One of my favorite parts of this movie was that there isn't a ton of dialogue but the story and feeling are represented through the sounds, or lack thereof. At one point you even see Sam get annoyed when the zombies in the area seem to leave and Sam feels left behind. I loved this movie's take on the apocalypse idea and how experiencing that can affect your psyche. Overall if you are a fan of zombie movies or films that will stick with you then definitely give this one a watch.
