The Amazing Mr. X (1948)

Several characters from the movie are scattered across the cover, along with a crystal ball

A couple of months ago, I bought a collection of 50 classic movies for a whipping $14. Easily the best investment I've ever made. I hadn't seen any of them, and the first one up is The Amazing Mr. X from 1948, starring Turhan Bey and Lynn Bari!

It's going to be difficult to rate these as horror movies, considering what today's horror is (and what my preferences are), so I'd say this one toes the line between murder mystery, psychological thriller, and supernatural horror.

Christine's husband Paul was killed in an accident two years prior, but she has suddenly started to hear his voice again and have strange experiences. This coincides with the arrival of Alexis, a con man claiming to be a medium who can help Christine make contact with Paul. This is definitely a "shenanigans ensue" situation, as Christine is gradually convinced she's losing her mind, her sister falls in love with Alexis, and Alexis does his dance around police.

It was a clever plot, with plenty of twists and a few laughs, so if you enjoy older movies then I'd recommend giving this one a watch!
