Welcome back Tubi lovers! I have a pick this week that I think will work for most horror palettes. I watched the 2024 movie Curse of the Sin Eater and thoroughly enjoyed every second of it. The story was interesting and the acting from Carter Shimp was nicely balanced with the demand of the role he played.
The film follows Rick Malone (played by Shimp) as he grapples with the recent suicide of his mother, which he witnessed. After her death, Rick is down on his luck and staying with his friend Jeremey until he gets back on his feet. During a series of stars aligning Rick meets millionaire George Drayton after Rick was hired to do some work on his house. After a short conversation with Drayton, Rick is offered everything Drayton has when he passes, which Drayton claims will be very soon. The only catch is that Rick must eat a meal off of Drayton's dead body. Only then will he be able to inherit everything.
I will say watching Rick eat this meal made my stomach turn. I dont think it was necessarily the fact that Drayton was dead but more so the fact that Rick keeps gagging as he is eating. Once the meal is complete and Rick is now wealthy beyond his wildest dreams, things start to go down-hill fast. Rick starts seeing visions of the horrible things not only Drayton did but the heirs that came before him.
Rick figures out that he has eaten the sins from many people who ran the estate in the past. This causes Rick spiral and he has to figure out if he can pass on the sins or if he will die with all of these sins and possibly end up in hell. Overall I really enjoyed Curse of the Sin Eater. The progression of seeing Rick slowly lose his grip on reality as he is trying to save himself was fascinating. This film is a wonderful example for the idea that money cannot buy happiness and some meals are not worth the fuss.
