We adore Rebecca Cuthbert here at The Scoop. She's so sweet, and has done such fantastic work (be sure to check out our review for her non-fiction work CREEP THIS WAY), and is a woman with things to say! Her newest collection, SELF-MADE MONSTERS, is the perfect proof of that.
The horrors that are just a part of life for women, are twisted into terrifying tales. Things like trying not to fall apart for the sake of everyone around us, and having to prove ourselves to fit in, are mixed in with delicious tales of revenge and women doing what's necessary to satisfy their own hungers. A woman's world is never wrapped up in a nice, neat, pretty bow like what's historically been expected of us, and Rebecca brutally splatters the real and metaphorical horrors across this canvas.
The introduction written by Laurel Hightower is just as intense, and the perfect way to kick off this party. Whether you tackle these SELF-MADE MONSTERS one piece at a time, or all in one sitting, you won't regret a single second of it.
