How Far Will Someone Go to Right Their Wrongs...

Pink and purple colored skull and knee bones book cover art for Cadaver Bone

Several years ago, my kiddo had to undergo multiple orthopedic surgeries to repair his elbow and arm bones.

During the last surgery, they used donor bone for a bone graft. I remember being unsettled by this fact but understood it was necessary.

Since then, I have often thought about the fact that he is walking around with a dead person's bone matter in his arm and how chilling that is.

Cadaver Bone by Wendy Dalrymple took that creepy little fear straight from my head and put it into a fun, fast story of secrets, lies and body horror!

About the book:

"After an injury leaves her with a destroyed knee, Mia finds herself in need of surgery and a new ACL. The surgery is a success, but as she heals and the drug-induced post-op phase wears off, Mia realizes that something has gone very, very wrong. CADAVER BONE is a pink horror meditation on the price of lies and how far someone will go to right their wrongs."

Pub Date: August 2nd, 2024

My thoughts:

I am already a big fan of Wendy's work.

She does female-centered Gothic horror in such a captivating, entertaining way. Her "Pink Horror" stories are equally thrilling and fun.

*Pink Horror is a subgenre of horror that focuses on women's issues and stories.

From Wendy, "Pink horror takes back all of the real-life horrors that we who identify as femme experience just living our everyday life and shoves it back in your face.”

Cadaver Bone didn't let me down.

It delivers a fully fleshed character going through complex human emotions that we can all relate to - fear of the future, self-doubt, and feeling isolated from those around us.

Take the already difficult things Mia (the MC) is going through and add a stressful recovery from knee surgery to the mix.

Mia is not a perfect person, but she is trying to make her life better.

She is trying to do the right things.

That is something Wendy does super well with her characters, and it adds to their relatability.

Cadaver Bone uses psychological horror and body horror in tandem to build a tense, genuinely scary story.

Losing control of your body and mind while trying to hold on to your life plans is a nightmare many of us can sympathize with.

When the twist of Cadaver Bone is unveiled, you will be angry and ready for revenge. This is a "good for her" story from start to finish.

I highly recommend this one, particularly if medical-related horror and body horror are your thing.

Either way, I urge you to keep your eyes on Wendy's work.

A meme of classic art where a person is making a shocked and disgusted face after being interrupted during reading time
