This week we are going back to 2005, when House of Wax premiered at Tribeca Film Festival and released in cinemas in the US.
I forgot just how much I love this film! First off, let's talk about the soundtrack. An enjoyable compilation of 2000s tunes that will transport you back in time, with bands like The Prodigy, Deftones and My Chemical Romance.
We also get quite a few familiar faces too, with Chad Michael Murray, Paris Hilton, Elisha Cuthbert and Jared Padalecki to name some. This meant that the acting was actually good, and yes, even Paris was great!
There are some great kills in this film. I love the scene where Wade (played by Jared) is getting all the hot wax poured on him in that contraption that almost likes like something out of a Saw movie!
I hate mannequins/dolls etc, so this town would really freak me out if I ever came across it. I like that 'Whatever Happened to Baby Jane' was playing in theatre (I've actually seen that one!). It's always fun when people in horror movies are watching other horror movies!
Honestly, I love everything about this! The melting at the end because the WHOLE house is made of wax is so cool. The practical effects were pretty good. The CGI ones perhaps haven't held up so well over time, but it doesn't take you out of the movie. I also love that it was the brother & sister duo that survived. (Spoiler!)
I like the little set up for a possible sequel at the end, though we never got one! I did wonder what happened to that guy.
Obviously this movie is a remake, and the original is still on my watchlist, but this one is a must see for horror fans.
