"LEGENDARY SISTER GRIMMER INCLUDED IN GRIMM RETOLD ANTHOLOGY
Speculation Publications is overjoyed to finally share the big news.
The upcoming Grimm Retold anthology, a horror collection of short stories and poetry, retelling fairy tales collected by the Brothers Grimm, is currently scheduled to be released September 2024. The collection has been described as gorgeous, dark and uncomfortable, the way a good fairy tale should be.
In the early stages of the project, editors LC Allingham and River Eno were overjoyed and somewhat stunned to be granted the rights to include a story from the OG reteller of fairy tales, Sister Grimmer herself, the late legendary author, Tanith Lee.
Tanith Lee established herself with her interpretations of vampire stories and fairy tales, weaving in themes of feminism and sexuality. Amassing a collection of over 90 novels and 300 short stories from the beginning of her career in 1968, she was the first woman to win the British Fantasy Award for best novel, and won the Bram Stoker Award for Lifetime Achievement in Horror in 2015, amongst her other numerous awards and accolades.
In 1992 Lee married writer and artist, John Kaiine. They were together until Lee's passing in their East Sussex home on May 24, 2015. But her legacy continues as she was, just this month, posthumously awarded the 2024 Infinity Award from the Science Fiction and Fantasy Writers Association at this year’s Nebula Awards. She is also the subject of the upcoming tribute anthology, Storyteller, edited by Julie C. Day.
The reprint from her debut collection, Red as Blood or Tales from the Sisters Grimmer, will be featured in the collection of twenty other stories and poems, including original short stories from horror veterans Ef Deal, Stoker nominated, Carol Gyzander, and original poetry from Lotus and Shirley Jackson Award nominated author and poet, Tiffany Morris.
Speculation Publications, a woman owned indie press that specializes in folklore, horror and speculative fiction, went official in 2022. They have primarily published anthologies, starting with their Collection of Utter Speculation anthologies, but have moved on to include novellas this year.
Grimm Retold is their biggest project to date, and the indie press is keeping a few more surprises (including a special author foreword) under wraps to be announced closer to publication.
